Fine Art Nude Photography

While educational or political nude photography are very easy to discern, the distinction between glamour, erotic and fine art are often blurred and unclear. The creator – the photographer has first dibs on characterizing their work but the people viewing would also have their own perspective.

Art nude photographers are usually advocates of creativity. However, some may have some sexual motives, either implied, hidden or expressed. In all totality, all parties, both photographer and models should be respected with their contribution to push their own boundaries, with respect to photographic skills and personal comfort levels in order to experience and create something beautiful.

Nudes will always be controversial, while it encompasses many forms of art media, controversy will always follow nude photography because of its inherent realism of which paintings and sculptures do not have. Early in the 19th century, nude photography was often labelled as a study for artists for use as figure studies in place of having a live model. Artist Eugène Delacroix adopted this practise early in the 19th century by French nude photographer Eugène Durieu where Durieu would take photos for Delacroix to use for painting references.
